LOWER BODY LIFT (BELT LIPECTOMY - CIRCUMFERENTIAL TUMMY TUCK)
Following significant weight loss, some patients experience excessive hanging skin in their abdomen, inner thighs, arms, breasts, and buttocks and even face. In the abdomen, the hanging skin can lead to rashes and infections between skin folds. The belt lipectomy removes this excessive soft tissue from the abdomen and back, while lifting the lateral thighs and buttocks. The result is a smoother contour and more natural appearance. Patients must have attained a stable weight in order to be candidates for this procedure. Additional procedures to correct sagging skin in the inner thighs, breasts, arms, and face are done separately, with at least three months allowed between operations.

Initial Consultation for Lower Body Lift Procedure
During your initial consultation with Dr. Naidu, she will discuss with you your desires and expectations from surgery. This will include a complete medical history and an examination of the skin, soft tissue and muscles of the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and back. Dr. Naidu will suggest a procedure that suits you best and answer any questions that you might have.

Lower Body Lift Procedure
The belt lipectomy is performed through horizontal incisions in the lower abdomen and in the lower back just above the buttocks. The rectus abdominis muscles of the abdomen are tightened, and the excess skin and fat from the abdomen, flanks, and back are trimmed and redraped. Liposuction is sometimes also used for reduction of the flanks. The umbilicus, or navel, is repositioned as is done in a standard abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. Small drains are placed beneath both the anterior and posterior skin. The procedure averages six hours in length, and is performed in the hospital under general anesthesia. All patients stay in the hospital for 1-3 days after surgery.

Post Lower Body Lift Surgery
Following surgery, an abdominal binder is placed, followed by a compressive garment after the drains are removed. The drains are removed 2 weeks following surgery. Most sutures placed will dissolve. Patients generally require two weeks off of work after this type of surgery. Walking is permitted and encouraged the day after surgery, but strenuous activity and heavy lifting are limited until six weeks following surgery.
